Under the pressure of anxiety and culture, people change their idea of marriage. They seem to become used to the idea that they should marry and have children at a certain age. Also, marriage seems to be the ultimate and sole purpose of an intimate relationship.

“Marriage Market” is questioning the adaptation of traditional Confucian culture and in a fast-paced, independent, enthusiastic life of Chinese youth and the role their parents are playing in young people’s dating journey. This project explores why and how the idea of getting married seems to have permeated the entire Chinese society and how people are reacting to it. It aims to encourage people to rethink the meaning of independence and self-care.
